Opinion on Technology

The new technology in World War 1 drastically changed the way the war was fought. It created millions of more casualties than there would've been with only the previous technology. One opinion is that the new technologies were not good because they just created more deaths and didn't really give any side an advantage. Some of the new technologies were very gruesome. My least favorite was the poison grenades which burned soldiers lungs and left them dying a slow and painful death. The machine guns could fire 600 rounds per minute which was ridiculous at that time period. They ripped through the soldiers and did not let anyone pass through no man's land. The new kinds of airplanes could fire machine guns and some droped devastating bombs. The tanks were huge and almost nothing could stop them unless they broke down. The new submarines could sink ships without being seen and could transport materials in a stealthy manner. Artillery could destroy things from miles and miles away and the people being fired upon could not do anything. All in all the new technologies only created more deaths and drastically increased the total amount of casualties in the war. On the other hand some of the new technologies really helped the armies in the trenches, and were able to provide some advantages for the different sides of the war. The british vickers machine gun is a great example for it was one of the most reliable guns in the war firing around 600 bullets per minute with a range of 4,500 yards. You can look at the impact of new technologies of World War 1 in many different ways but my opinion on them is very neutral because they were very harmful but they also helped our side of the army win the war.
